H-bridge DC motor controller circuit. BDC motor controller circuit design depends on the type of signal, power regulation, control system, and other features. You can choose among various options based on your technical specifications and budget limits.

This example will show how to model a DC motor's speed using different approaches in Collimator. The three approaches involve simulating diagrams from a differential equation, a transfer function, and a state variable model. Then, we will design and simulate a PID controller for the DC motor speed.

We all know that for a DC motor, to change the direction of rotation, we need to change the polarities of supply voltage of motor. So to change the polarities we use H-bridge.  Now in above figure1 we have fours switches. As shown in figure2, for the motor to rotate A1 and A2 are closed. Because of this, current flows through the motor from right to left, as shown in 2nd part of figure3.

The speed can be controlled by varying the number of turns in the field winding. This is achieved by tapping out the series field winding at several points, as shown in the figure below.

The code should be easily ported to any other STM32 microcontroller or reconfigured to use any Timer and PWM Channel that you want just as we’ll see in this section. And here is a link for the course’s repo, and you’ll find the DC_MOTOR driver in the ECUAL directory as usual.

As mentioned before, a general-purpose diode is connected in parallel with the motor to reject the reverse EMF produced by the motor's coil. A separate 12V power supply is provided for the motor.

Prepare the power supply. If using a power pack, install the batteries so the + and - sides are facing the correct directions in the housing. If it can be done, keep the power supply off for now.

If this causes many problems, a switch may be installed between these components to shut off the circuit when needed. Once both ends of the wire are connected, the circuit will be ready.

In this section of the tutorial DC Motor Speed Control using Arduino UNO, I am going to explain you about designing as well as a detailed description of the designed algorithm. I will tell you about the entire algorithm in step by step procedure.

You basically right-click the project name in the IDE’s navigator and choose to create a new > source folder. And name it ECUAL and go to the GitHub repo, download the files and copy the “DC_MOTOR” folder and back to the IDE, right-click on the ECUAL and paste the library into it.

While in other cases, the favored frequency can be up to 20kHz so as not to have any audible noise from the electronics side of the system. This can’t always be the case for all sorts of applications.

In this tutorial, we will cover the basic principles of DC motors and show you how to control the speed of a motor using PWM, an H-bridge circuit, and the L293D motor driver.
